Meet the Mind Behind the Macabre
A lifelong explorer of fear, fiction, and the shadows in between.
Escamilla explores the macabre through a deep fascination with humanity’s hidden fears. Whether in short stories, novels, or horror analysis, she seeks to uncover the unsettling truths that lie just beneath the surface—urging readers to reflect on the universal emotions that bind us. Her lifelong curiosity about horror stems not only from a love of classic nightmares—spanning from Mary Shelley to Algernon Blackwood—but also from an understanding that true terror often resides within everyday anxieties and personal shadows.
When she’s not crafting dark fiction or empowering fellow creatives through writing prompts and craft guides, Escamilla enjoys wandering quiet trails, browsing curiosity shops, and haunting cozy coffee spots. She believes horror resonates most when it’s rooted in psychological truth and encourages others to transform real fears into unforgettable stories.

Like many horror authors, I’m a big fan of the Universal Monsters crew. If I had to pick just one though, I’d choose vampires. There’s something endlessly fascinating about how they can range from bloated, undead fiends to master seducers who lure you in before going for the kill.

I’m all about a flavored latte (or iced coffee, depending on the season). I also love tea and hot chocolate when I want to switch things up. Snack-wise, you’ll usually find me digging into a bag of trail mix, especially with nuts and chocoalte thrown in the mix.

There are so soooo many! I’m drawn to “dark travel”, which are places steeped in eerie history. Not in a sensationalism sense, but more in a I-need-to-understand-human-behavior sense. I also find inspiration out in nature, from walks in woods to swimming in the ocean.
But the most random location? IHOP on the Strand in Galveston, Texas at 2 a.m. during a thunderstorm. No joke. I’m not sure if that particular story (or potential novel) will ever see the light of day, but it was a fun spark!

I’ve dabbled in several genres already, but I’d love to fully merge horror with romance one day. There’s something compelling about pairing the frightening with the heartfelt and turning love itself into a source of both awe and dread.

Mary Shelley, hands down. I’d ask her for party tips and get the tea about a certain graveyard visit.

I love hiking, traveling, and haunting coffee shops (pun intended). Aside from that, I love being out and about. I’m into movies, going to shows, museums, galleries, all the usual stuff. Nothing too outlandish, but it keeps me inspired!

Absolutely. I’ve had a lingering fear of death ever since I was electrocuted in my twenties (yes, seriously). That constant awareness of mortality definitely seeps into my stories, along with the looming loss of control that comes with it.
I also have an unnatural fear of humanoids (bigfoot, aliens, etc.) I have no idea why but anything that looks human, but isn’t freaks me the f out.
